1st amendment rights in Waverly
- Cal Corson, a Waverly resident, wrote a Facebook post addressing someone in his community who had displayed an upside down American flag in his yard. He said that he was offended by the display. The post included the person’s address, a picture of their front yard, and encouraged readers to go “teach him a lesson”.
- The person was eventually confronted by another resident and reported the incident to police as harassment
- Texas vs. Johnson states that the act of burning the American flag is protected under the 1st amendment as an expression of free speech.
